Home Remedies for Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic condition that also affects the skin, creating red patches covered with thick silvery scales.  It is considered an autoimmune disorder, and the symptoms may come and go, becoming more or less severe with each outbreak.  Moderate Psoriasis is commonly treated with steroid creams and other topical medications.  More severe cases of Psoriasis may be prescribed pharmaceutical injections, such as Humira or Stelara.
As with eczema, topical steroid creams may further weaken the immune system, destroy the skin, and penetrate the blood stream.  When it comes to the injections, however, the potential side effects become quite severe.

The list of side effects for Humira is quite extensive, ranging from weight gain and blurred vision, abnormal clear or bloody discharge from the nipple or vagina, depression, persistent non-healing sores on the skin, seizures, skin rash, sharp back pains, vomiting… the list goes on.  There is also a black box warning on Humira for serious infection risks, including pulmonary and extrapulmonary tuberculosis, invasive fungal infections, and other infections that can be fatal.  Additionally, Humira has been reported to cause cancer.

Although Stelara doesn’t have a black box warning as serious as Humira, its list of side effects is equally unpleasant, including cough, fever, chills, back pain, painful urination, double vision, night blindness, seizures, skin sores that do not heal, persistent crusting or scaling of the nipples, etc. etc.

Fortunately, the natural treatments for Psoriasis do not have such debilitating side effects.  They include:

  • Sea salt and/or magnesium chloride bath, followed immediately with moisturizing oil, such as virgin olive oil or virgin coconut oils.
  • Soaking in a solution of 1 cup Apple Cider Vinegar per gallon of water
  • Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese herbal medicine
  • Breathing exercises may also help lessen breakouts that are triggered by stress

Additionally, people who suffer from Psoriasis have reported great success in curing their condition by following an anti-inflammatory diet.  For more information about diet options, read “The Amazing ‘Cure-All’ Healing Diet.”
